Takatsukasa Kanemoto (鷹司兼基)

Kanemoto TAKATSUKASA (鷹司 兼基, 1185 - year of death unknown) was a Kugyo (high court noble) in the early Kamakura period. He was the fourth son of Sessho (regent) Motomichi KONOE. His mother was the daughter of Jakushun Hoin (the highest rank in the hierarchy of Buddhist priests). As they used another surname "Muromachi", this lineage of the Takatsukasa family was called the Muromachi family.

In 1197, after his genpuku (coming of age) ceremony, he was appointed as Jugoinojo Jiju (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade, Chamberlain), and the next year, he was promoted to Shogoinoge (Senior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). He achieved rapid advancement in life under his father, Kanpaku (chief adviser to the Emperor); for example, in 1199, he became Jushiinoge Ukone no chujo (Junior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade, Middle Captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards), and the next year 1200, after three time promotions, on December 11 he reached Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank). In 1202, he was appointed as Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank) and then Junii (Junior Second Rank), and in 1204, he was appointed as Gon Chunagon (Provisional Vice-Councilor of State) when he was as young as only 20 years old, and moreover, he was appointed as Shonii Chunagon (Senior Second Rank, Vice-Councilor of State) the next year. In 1206, he was appointed as Gon Dainagon (Provisional Chief Councilor of State), and in 1215, he was appointed as Dainagon (Chief Councilor of State), but in 1218, he resigned his position as Dainagon. In 1229, his son Joki founded Jisso-in Temple. In 1251, he entered into priesthood and called him Kene (顕恵), but the year when he died is unknown.
